Countrywide's $8.4 billion dollar settlement (complaint)
Should borrowers have known that $4,000 per month incomes cannot service $4,000 per month housing payment + food, energy, day care etc?
Should "professional" money managers have
realized that something wasn't right with 9% returns for
5-6% mortgages; especially when it was well documented
that the lenders and lending practices had changed
dramatically during relevant times. Clearly,
providing highly leveraged
(100%+ financing) to borrowers with no income
documentation, no or little savings, marginal credit upon
collateral that was fraudulently, grossly and
intentionally inflated was not a good idea.
